RATES MONEY
£3300 ALREADY RECEIVED
It was a happy thought of the Mayor (Mr. R. A. Wright) to anticipate th* rate demand in order to relieve th* financial pinch at the Town Hall. Till 4 o’clock yesterday afternoon the total amount received on account of rates wa» •£'3300 ~The Mayor hopes that his appeal will be responded, to by some of the larger firms and individual property-owners who can afford, to pay at once a proportion of their rates at all events without feeling it. The interest charge, on-the increasing overdraft is very ..heavy and will be heavier still after August 1, when the rate increases from 6i to 7 per cent.
