The Commonwealth Government's new steamer Emita, which has jur.t been completed at the Williamstown shipyards, Is expected to make her maiden voyage tts a cargo carrier within a few weeks. It has not yet been definitely decided in what service she will engage, but she will probably make her first trip overseas. The work of building the Eromanga has progressed favourably since this Commonwealth steamer was launched at the Walsh Island dockyard on March 12. The main engines have been installed, and the fit-ting-cut of the vessel is well advanced. ULIMAROA SAIL,S TO-MORROW. The Huddart-Parker steamer Ulimaroa is to leave for Sydney at noon to-morrow. MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. Mr. E. J. Lyons has joined the Ulimaroa as fourth engineer, vice Mr. E. C. Thompson. Mr. G. M. Hill has signed off tno vessel. Mr. J. Valentino has been promoted to fifth, and Mr. H. Crosker to sixth engineer. Mr. S. D. French has signed on as seventh. Mr. A. Levestan, late acting chief engineer of the Manuka, arrived at Wellington from Sydney on Monday in order to join the Tofua at Auckland as chief engineer. Mr. J. Tho Karori is to sail for Westport today to load for Wellington. The Komata will undergo survey after completion of discharge. She is expected to resume running again next week. The Kamo is due on Friday from Greymouth with a cargo of. coal. The Ysabel left New Plymouth yesterday for Whangarei and Auckland. The Houto left, Dunedin at 8 a.m. on Monday for Wellington with a cargo of tiles. After discharge here she will load for Dunedin. The Tasmania ’s to sail on Friday fur Lyttelton and Dunedin. The Wootton is due to-morrow from Lyttelton, and will sail on the return trip to that port on Saturday. x The Ngakuta is to leave Greymouth today with coal for East Coast ports. The Calm ip to sail to-morrow for Lyttelton and Dunedin. The Rarawa is due to-morrow from New Plymouth to go on the slip. She will sail to-morrow for New Plymouth, nnd leave that port for Onehunga as usual on Friday.

The Pntiki sailed last night for Westport to load posts for East Coast ports.

The Pacific Steam Navigation Company has purchased the steamer Marathon, 7827 tons, and has renamed her the Cruba. The ferry steamer Maori made such good time on the run from Wellington to Lyttelton ou Saturday night that she was put under reduced steam at 2 o clock on Bunday morning, arriving Lyttelton at 6.55 a.m.
