POLICE AND CIVIL CASES The police business in the Magistrate's Court yesterday was dealt with by Mr. F. K. Hunt. S.M. , Henry Richard Balding, who appeared for tins fifth time charged with drunkenness, admitted that a term at Roto Roa. i would do him good. He was convicted and sent to the island for twelve months John D. Crowley, convicted for the fifth time for drunkenness, was fined 205.. in default three days’ imprisonment, and tor committing a breach of his prohibition order he was fined a further 205., wit i the same alternative. . , . , John Sharp and Waino Rautio, convicte for the second time for drunkenness, yer each fined 101., with tile option ot hours' imprisonment. Smith £6 15s. in instalments of £1 per month. Mrs. G. 11. Ruddell (Mr. Jackson) claimed from William Charman, grocer., of Russell Terrace (Mr. T. Neave) the sum of £37 4s. The plaintiff declared that she had agreed to purchase a section at Melrose from the defendant, and had paid a deposit of £l5. but immediately after the agreement was signed, it was alleged, she ascertained that the actual boundaries ■£ the land did not agree with the description given by the defendant s agent.. Sire, therefore, claimed a refund of the deposit of *£;ls. general damages £2O. and £2 4b. expenses. After hearing evidence 6? two witnesses, the case was adjourned for 'a fortnight.
