PICTON REGATTA CHAMPIONSHIP EVENTS DELAYED BY HIGH WIND By Telegraph—Press Association. Blenheim, February 16. The championship regatta was held at Picton to-day. Unfortunately the wind that sprang up from the north-east shortly after the first race was rowed, raised a nasty jobble, which prevented any championship events being rowed until evening. Smeral limes the starter had the crews in the line, but on each occasion found it impossible to get the boats away. In the Champion Sculls, 'or instance, all four boats became filled with water, while before the Champion Fours was postponed for the second time two crews had to row to shore to empty their skiffs. At Picton itself, calm conditions prevailed, which also obtained as far se the mile post, enabling all the minor-eicrts to be got off. These provided seen competition, and one or two close finishes. Rc.-i;its are as follow:— Minor Events. Maiden Fours.—Welliilnton, 1: Picton. 2; Poverty Bay, 3. Also started: Blenheim and Wairau. Won i v two lengths, one length between second and third. Time, sniin. 49 g-oseo Junior Pairs. -W:ii-aj. 1; Poverty Lay. 2; West End (No. b, 3. Also started: Picton. Star, and Wanganui. An < icainf finish, the placed crews fintelitng in a bunch. Time, 6min. 55 4-seec. Youths' Fours.—Star. 1; West End. 2; Wairau, 3. Also started: Blenheim, Poverty Bay, and Pictcn. West End led early, but Star mowed them down, and won by a length. Time, 6min. 10 l-ssec. Junior Fours.—West End, 1: Wairau. 2: Wanganui, Union, 3. Also started: Picton and Star. West End almost immediately the lead, followed closely by Wairau nnd Wanganui Union. This order was maintained throughout. An excellent, finish. Won bv half a length. Time. 9min. 6sec. Championship Events. The only details of championship events available to-night are the following-.— Champion Fours.—Wanganui Union. 1; Aramoho, 2; Blenheim, 3. Won by half a length, after a great race. Time. 12min. 10 2-ssec. / Champion Sculls.—St. Clair (Hamilton), 1; Sharp (Wanganui Union), 2. Rowed in semi-darkness. Time, 10 17 3-ssec. The remainder of the championship events were postponed till the morning.
