CANTERBURY MARKET
By Teleernnh—Press Association Christchurch, August 13. The oats market _ continuea in a state of depression, and in many respects the position is extraordinary. In effect, practically all the sellers are northern merchants, who do not possess the goods. The contention in tho north is that the oats are not required there—a contention that will bs proved or disproved in the early spring, if not before. There are big firm holders in the south, and once weak holders dispose of their stocks a firmine is confidently anticipated, as few oats are now in the growers' hands, and further buying by merchants is therefore practically nil. Quotations aro nominal, but 4s. 2d. at country stations for Gartons would be the maximum offer at present. Chaff is also in little request, and £b at country _ stations is about the maximum quotation.
