NEW ZEALAND TIME
Sir.—ln a recent issue "Scientist" w pressed a kopo that the Government •would not drop the Tims Bill. May I, as ono who knows tho subject, express a hope that they will? Tho change is not wanted by tho community. It has distinct and grave disadvantages, and only one or two "scientists" ask for it as n, fad. Scientists of far greater leadim; put New Zealand into ifie eleven-hour zone,' not. the twelve, but no change is necessary.' Scientists selected the present time at a half-honr, which is also tho standard zoneln India and South' Australia. The alleged" saving of thou, sands of pounds is purely a paper theoretical one, and Tn so far as there i» anything in it, is nothing less than a shift of cost from ftiesliouldors of thobig shops and factories to those °f t!l| > private consumer. Navigators coming to New Zealand from tho East mid tho West wonld always be in danger of n mistake of a <iay in tho date for tho correction changes in tho middle of tho proposed zonp. If tho clven-hour zone were Adopted their seasonal or summer time would become r. natural and grateful relief instead of an unwararnted luxury.-!,
