PILLAGING
■ IMPORTANT CONFERENCE PROPOSED. An" inquiry is to bo held in Wellington regarding pillaging. Representatives of the Wellington Harbour Board, tho shipping companies, .importers, and tho police will confer with the object of suggesting methods of combating pillaging, and cargo broaching 011 ships and wharves. The shipping companies and tho importers arc disposed to believa that strongly restrictive measures are required. The institution of a gate system on the wharves and the strengthening of the wharf police will be discussed. Suggestions will bo made for the improvement of checking systems, with- the object of locating the pillaging more closely than is done at present.
