HIDE AND SKIN SALE

The fortnirhtly salcaof hides and tallow were held yesterday by the various brokers. , • Messrs. Dalgety and 00. report that they offered a. good catalogue to a representative attendance of buyers. Stout hides were in fairly keen demand, and were mainly secured by tanners at id.' to Id. per lb. below last Bales rates. Prices for hides Generally were about Id. per lb. lower except for kips, which showed a. slight advance on late rates. All inferior hides-were extremely difficult of sale. There was practically no demand for tallow, but the firm sold <i few linoß at about the prices ruling at the last salo, London reports this week a furthor drop of 4n. per cwt., with the market tendine downwards.

Messrs.. Levin and Co. report having submitted a.nice selection of hides. Priceß were somewhat erratic. Compared with the sale held a fortnight ago, there was a ironeral decline all round except for hip, which ehowed a slight advance. Inferior lines were entirely neglected, buyers not showing any disposition to operate on theso sorts. The tallow market was very quiet, buyers being disinclined to do business. (

Messrs. Murray, Roberts, and Co. renort flint they offered a catalogue of 1300 hides. Bidding was slow nt nn nil-round decline of ljd. per lb„ excentiny for kin, which maintained last sale's levol of prices. There wore large withdrawals in consequence of the decline in prices. Tallow wag Baloable at very low figures compared -with the high rateß of a month auo, the top price offered, for mixed, being 41f„

The New Zealand Loan and Mercar/.ile Agency Company. Ltd., advise that competition for all good lotß was good, but there was a slight decline for cut and slippy, but otherwise calfskins, both cut and . slipoy were neglected. There was very little domand for tallow.

The Wairarapa Farmers' Co-operative Association, Limited, in which is incorporated fhslfnlteu' Farmer*' 00-opcrntive Association, Ltd., report that compared with the sale on July 2 priceß for heavy and medium ox hides were lower by id. fo Id.; cow hides were lower all round by ljd. per lb.; suporior calf were firm at previous sale priceß, kin and slippy were on a par with sale. Pricea for cut and alipjiy hides -were irregular. Tallow was slow of aale.

The New Zealand Farmers' Co-op. Distributing Co., Ltd., report that there was again.a vory weak market for hides and calfskins of all descriptions. Prices compared with the sale held two weeks a»o show n further drop of Id. to 2d. per lb. in fioat instances. Tho tallow market waa al6o exceedingly flat and only a few lots were disposed of, and these at iric'es about ss. per cwt. below last auction. The range of prices is as under;— Ox, sound, 701b.
