Oakleigh. was backed down to a very short price in tho Hack Steeplechase, aud after a ttood exhibition of jumping ho cot a lucky win. To Toa and Slumix led a strung-out field for twelve furlongs, when Slumix went by himself. He jumped very woll, but Oakleigh finished strongly and juEt snatched a Beck victory on the post. Manhattan waß twenty lengths away, and then ca-nio Te Toa, -with tho others beaten, off. Notability ran off at tho first l'euco, and Tornca at the brush. At the bottom of the courßO, Harbour Light fell. Croesus,, Ruddy, and Hookah were scratched for the Stewards' Stakes, and the public made Gold Kip an odds-on favourite. Gold Kip, ou the -jnsida, was tho quickest to begin, but Heather Sprig soon headed him, and with Arch Salute he led down' tho back from tho favourite and Goldshlne and Bagdad. Heather Sprig was s'till in charge at tie turn, wliero Gold Kip made an effort; but M'Flinn had been nursine tho leader, aud in the run lo the post he held his own, and mm by two lcnjjthß, while Gold Kip beat Maioho by a nose. Arch Salute was fourth. Fooman, Wirokino, and Brunswick were the ncraichiuKS from the big Steeplechase. Luke, Guanaco, and First Lino -wore evenly backed, the flrßt-named being ■ favourite Mishaps were frequent throughout the race*, and only five horses finished. Old Munjyudi fell at the second fence, and Guanaco and Maraototara ran off, while at later stages Firßt Line and Chillies also camo down. First Line and Peneton set a fast pace, and were in front practically all the way till the first-named fell two fencos from home. Khartoum, who was quietly ridden by F. Flynn, took charge at the half-mile, and though Peneton contested the ground with him Khartoum won comfortably. Luko was a .poor third, and seemed hampered by the -weight. Sllenus, who broke down, and Bollin finished a long way back. Ruddy, who had J. Morris in the saddle, was the public fancy in the Necklace, and well handled ho won by a narrow margin from a rank outsider in Powder King, who finished very fast. Ethiopian was third, after being :in the van with Pretty Bobby all tho way. Black Lake was prominent for a mile, but ho failod to finish.

Zola was favourite for the open Hurdle Race, Want being the only withdrawal. Meltchikoff led passinj the stand the first time, but tho reßt of tho field was handy. Down the back Ore Oro ran to the front, bnt at the half-mile Meltchikoff again headed him with Goldstream, Zola, and Paddington Green handy, The last-named led over tho last hurdle, and in the run home ho kept Zola off, and won by two lengths, with Goldr.tream a lenpth away. Meltchikoff was fourth.

Tho Settlers' Hack Handicap saw Miss Glron mndo favourite, with Ngata second choice. Lalla Rookh beine the only withdrawal. Miss Giron and Magistrate wero in front to the home turn, where Mosthenes took charge and in a close finish he beat Lord Astolat by a neck. Many spectators thought Piro Piro was third, though the judge placed Miss Giron. Night Time, Ngata, and Sanacre wero the ne.tt to finish.
