SUGGESTION FROM'BRITAIN. ■ , The fpllowing letter has been received by the Director of Education' (Dr. Anderson) from the secretary of. the League of the Empire, London, with reference to the interchange of teachers between the London County Council and New Zealand:— ' "I am directed to inform you. that the London, County Council has offered the League of the Empire to 'inters change twenty of- its teachers with twenty teachers from Australasia each year—the interchange .to he\ for the period of twelve months—for purpose of study and experience. It is to regularise the interchange with Australasia, as it has already been regularised with Canada, that the London County Council has made this proposal to the league to exchange twenty teachers yearly. Four Canadian, teachers ore already in London under the scheme, and arrangements are being made for the; full number to avail themselves of the offer. Should the 6cheme be approved by the Education Department of New- Zealand, we would suggest that the number apporiionable to the Dominion, taking it ou a, population basis, should be four. Full particulars as to the' conditions under this scheme offered to English teachers by >your Education Department are solicited as well as the date when the exchange, if accepted, should take place. "It is believed that many teachers are already prepared to co-operate with a New Zealand exchange.. It is understood that teachers pay their own voyage and travelling expenses, but the league will endeavour to arrange for comfortable and economical residence in London, and will give facilities for much intercourse which ""will be valuable'to 1 hem during their stay in the Mother Country. The propramraa of the London County Council has included a month's observation work in the schools durinir the year's service, a privilege of much value to the visiting teacher."- ■•■■;■ -\ A copy of ..the letter has been forwarded by Dr. Anderson to the secretaries of nil education boards throughout the Dominion stating that ho will be glad to receive any recommendations, including the nomination for exchange of die male, and one ; female teacher.
