HERBERT BOOTH MISSION
The Herbert Booth mission began in the Town Hall, yesterday afternoon. While there was a, big uudience in; the body of the, hall and some in the gallery, ■ thero ■were only five persons on the platform. These were, Mr. D. O. MacOlay, the Revs. Beckingham and Hutson, Mr. Collins at tho organ, and the visitor, Mr. Herbert Booth. The whole service bore tho hall-mark of genuine purpose to provoke a teal revival. Rev. S. Beckiugham presided, and after the oponiue worship in 6ong and Scripture, Herbert Booth took as his text Isaiah 9 verao 6: "His name shall be called Wonderful." Among the pointß of tho address were tho following;— "Don't forger Christ's task was a superhuman one. He camo to meet the ntod of a ruined world. We must be equal in • nature, power, and glory to tho vast ab-, ligations of 6uch;an .assumption of office." ■ "The Christ of the modern' thinker, pre scnts nothing to te amazed at. Robbed of divine power, He is a mere man of high -morality, keen, intellectual powers, deep spiritual perception. Why, we rhave had' plenty of these'and they never saved a eoul." "The man who tries to crowd the infinite God into the-precincts of his littlo brain is like a fool trying to squeeze the Atlantio' Oceau into a tea cup. "Men aro weak as well as wicked; they're helpless as well as hopeless; they're aatray in the dark as well as ruined by the fall; they need aid as well an redemption. Christ the Counsellor ii Heaven's answer to that cry. He comes not only with salvation for the sinful, but with leadership for the lost." . One of the strongest passages from Mr. Booth's sermon was "Beware of the unbelieving 80-called believer who repeats the sin of Eve and gives the lie to the sure Word of God tnat ho may eat the fruit of forbiddea knowledge, ficware of the false teachers who, while they applaud Christ's philoso- ' pky and sociology and saintlinass, would reduce Him to a level littlo above a Mo- ' hammed or a Confucius. Beware of Iho'o who, while they stand at the Cross o5 Jesus flattering Him with'their words. • are-all the time, like the Roman soldiers', tearing the Imporial Robe from His shoulders, and like tho FJmrisccs; snatching the royal diadem- from His brow. Remember that, the reason these Pharisees murdered Jesus' was because 'Ho being a man made Himself a God.'" At night to a large audience Mr. Booth again preached, this thug taking as his' subject "Samson the Pool." His address had four points, whioh he termed "four aot« in a great Bible drama" 1. Samson the conqueror. <,- 2. Samson the fool. 3 Samson the slave. 4. Samson the restvred' and-triiirainhant. Tho meetings will lie continued eaM evening in the Kent Terace Prosbytcrian Ohurch.
