There is a moderate selection, with a good attendance of buyers. Fair competition rules for all gocd merinos at 5 per cent, above January closing rates, The advance is entirely due to American and Japanese operations, owing; to the favourable exchange. Inferior wools are generally 5 per cent, easier; line to-medi-um cros-sbreds- are unchanged, and low, shabby sort.-; are mostly nogleeted. _ Such line? At tho wool sales there was a choice selection of merinos. The record price of 98s. was received. A goad selection of Blipes made full opening rates. There was ft poor selection of greasy crossbreds. Prices showed a hardening tendency. There were practically no withdrawals of lower sorts. New Zealand "Gear" realised an average of 55Jd. The Now Zealand loan and Mercantjlo Agcncv Company, Ltd., have re.coived the following cablegram from their London house under dato February 10:-Wool RSleB opened. Good merino upward tendency, others 5 per cent, lower. Fins crossbred market, firm, others neglected. Messrs. Levin and Co., Ltd.. have received the following cablegram from London, dated February 10:—"As compared with January closing sales, Ihe present opening sales show merinos and flno cross. breds unchanged. ■ Medium crossbreds 'firm; inferior crosabreds neglected. The Bank of New Zealand haa received •advice from its London office under dal6' February 10:-"Thc sales have opened, with EtroiiK competition and large attendance, of buvors. There iB only a moderato domo-nd for medium and coarse cross breds, for which the market is irrogular Compared with the close of last series pricoß for practically all descriptions are unchanged."
