GELIGNITE CAPTURED
A MASKED AND ARMED BAND (By Telegraph-Press Association-Copyrißht London, February 0. Masked ami armed Sinn Feiners raided a. drifter at Arklow, and removed vliirtcen .boxes, containing half a. ion of gelignite. The drifter was loaded with gelignite on Tuesday at Kynocii's explosive factory, which was recently closed, in order to transport it elsewhere, and she was compelled io return to port by stress of weather. Meantime the military guard had been withdrawn. The raiders took up positions at various parts of : the quays, while a party boarded the drifter from a small boat. Tliev surprised and bound the watchmen. The raiders were well acquainted with explosives, and selected -.illy the finished product. The police and military have not succeeded in tracing the gelignite. Seventy Sinn Feiners who were arrested were removed from the Cork Gaol under a strong military guard, including armoured cars. They were ploced on warships at Queenstown, and taken to an English port. An aeroplane circled overhead until the vessels were at sea: Two hundred armed men captured the police barracks at Casllemarty, .-levcn miles east of Queenstown. There vera many casualties.—Aus.-N.Z.
