PAISLEY BY-ELECTION
INTENSE PUBLIC INTEREST. (Rec. February 12, 0.-15 a.m.) London, February 9. played in tho Paisley by-election camIntense public interest is being dispaign. The newspapers are devoting much snace to daily reports and "prosuects" from special correspondents on tho 6not. It is generally agreed that the polling ,on Thursday will result in a closo run between Messrs. Asquith (Liberal) and Biggar (Labour). Although Mr. M'Kean Unionist), despite the fact that ho is over 70 years old, is putting up a spirited fight. It is believed ill' 6omo auartors that Mr. Bonar Law's letter approving Mr. M'Kean is an embarrassment, as emphasising that ho has tho euonort oulv of the Unionist side of the Coalition. Mr. Biggar is confident of winning, as ho has been promised the entiro co-ODoration and votes of 10,000 Irish voters, but tho correspondents doubt if thev will vole solidly. Although supported by. advanced Socialists, Mr. Biggar stands on the Moderate plat-form.—Aus.-N.Z. Cablo Assn.
