- SHORTHORN BULL SALE. ; - .-Messrs. Dalgoty and Co.. Ltd., in con- ; junction' with Messrs. levin and Co., Ltd., report having held the first annual bull:sale, on account of Sir Walter j Buchanan, at Tupurupuru, on Tuesday ■ last,- when they submitted a catalogue of 33 bulls and 9 heifers. Owing to tho ; dislocation of shipping buyers from the ■South Island and Poverty Bay were unable .to attend the sate, with the . result that there was an absence of outj- side competition, except from Taranaki. The drought also had an effect on the ! Bale, and only selected bulls were keenly i competed for. Prices realised were:— | ' For 18-months bulls, 85, CI, 30, 45. 43. 40, j !)2i', 31 and 25 guineas, and for heifers, ' yt0,.30, 28, 25 and 20 guineas were ob- ! tained.- This sale, it is understood, is to ! be;an' annual fixture.

Tho oows-were an exceptionally fine lot, j and met with keen competition, the herd of 40 cows averaging £15 15s. Best cows, £15 to £21, one cow making as high as £40; medium cows, £12 to £15; aged coivs, £8 to £10; harness horBCB, £12 10s. and £30; heifers in calf, £7; twenty-months bull, £4 10s.; weaners, 30s. Messrs. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report that at Palmerston North on May 22 a small yarding of sheep and cattio came forward. Quotations:—Sheep: Forward owes, lis., 12s. 6d. to 15s. 3d.; twotooth wethers (small),-, 175. to 18s. 9d.; b.f. lambs, tOs.. Id., Us.,' to- 12s. Id.; other lambs, 4s„'6s., to 7s.
