ENTERTAINMENTS

KING'S THEATRE. Excellent business lias been recorded at tho King's Theatre with the "Marionettes," a society feature, in which that supreme favourite Clara Kimball Young plays the leading role excellently. Those who have not already seen "Marionettes" will have a final opportunity to-night. A particularly strong supporting programme is also screened, including an excruciatingly funuy Mack Scnnett comedy, entitled "Skidding Hearts". The quality of the music played by the King's augmented orchestra is a particularly attractive portion of the evening's entertainment. The plan is on view at the Bristol. NORMA TALMADGE COMING TO . THE KING'S. • > What is said to be one of the strongest programmes yet selected for the King s Theatre will bo screened to-mor-row afternoon for the first time. The feature picture is entitled "Ghosts of Yesterday," and the leading role is in vho cnpable hand 6 of Norma Talmndgo, one of Wellington's first favourites on the screen. The theme of "Ghosts of Yesterday" is an unusual one, and is said to hold the interest from start to 'finish. A hew' Mack' Senriett comedy, entitled "A.' Clever Dummy," is stated to be funny enough to tickle the risible faculties of tho most grave individual. Quite a feast of good music is set down in the repertoire to be played by the King's orchestra, including "Belle of New York" selection, also selections from the "Blue Moon" and "Maritana," Jeanne d'Arm Overture (Verdi), Chopin's celebrated Nocturne 12, and Godard's opera "Jocelvn." Veritably a fine musical bill of fare. The management hns decided to hold an extra matinee performance on Wednesday afternoons, commencing next Wednesday, January 15, when the full orchestra will play, and the programme will be screened precisely as at night. "HEARTS OE THE WORLD.". To-morrow night at tho Grand Opera House J. C. Williamson, Ltd., will present for the first time in Wellington the latest and what is is' claimed to be the greatest D. W. Tho picture had a remarkably successful season in Christchurch and Dunedin,' where it has just terminated .record seasons. "Hearts of the World" is said to bo the most wonderful creation of tho screen, outclassing those two previous great efforts of Mr. Griffith, "Intolerance" and "The Birtni of a Nation." One of the most por. tentous moments of the story is the episode which depicts Hamilton's.mother, a delicate woman; forced in to, the hardest sort of'service by the German occupation, who fails, and finally dies in the collar 6he. and her three little boys inhabit. The'little follows, sprung from babyhood to manhood in a,day by the fearful elixir of war, resolutely'dig her grave in the floor of their one-room habitation, and lay her where they'can be sure no Saxon ghoul will disturb her rest. This scene; simply writen, realistically acted and directed by the hand of genius, is Tolstoy literature. The box plans, are at the-Bristol, and day sales may be purchased at Ned Perry's. .
