The conference between representotivea of the Tramway Union and the Eoslyn and the Kaikorai I'ram Companies today ended in a deadlook. The companies' delegates announced that their directors considered that hill companies could not pay the wages agreed toby the City Council which they regarded as excessive ana mare than tho receipts would warrant. They stood by the first offer of slight increases in wages, but patrons of the trams were not numerous enough togive them aay cJisnce of recouping additional expense by increasing the fares. The union refused the companies «£ ' S*". 0 ??' ference ended. It is expected that the matter will be taken to the Arbitration Court.
