Shy citizens who tremble at having to face hundreds of fair collectors in the city streets to-morrow may be inclined to take heart when they see men of the engineers from Trentham Camp building structures of sandbags at busy parts of the-city. The idea that these aro "funk-holes" may gain ground; but it will be wrong. They are dug-outs; much the same sort, of dug-outs that carry tho Red Triangle sign in the battle zones where ] the Allied troops are fighting. If any man bolts for these dug-outs the obvious result will be that he will well, it is so obvious —and then he will havo to "shell out" So it will be better to stay out and buy au exemption badge. Even the Stars Will Help. While every earthly means is being exhausted to make the Red Triangle appoal a success, the Wellington Philosophical Society is not neglecting what might be tormed assistance. Tlje ■stars in tho skies will help, too, by medium of the telescopes at the Kelburn and Wellington College Observatories. From half-past 7 in the evening until 9 p.m. the man in the street and his wife and family may gaze at the planets and the moon and stars in these places. There will be no, price set on any particular moon or star, but a collection for the boys in tho trenches will be jiado. Some of those- stars you will look at shine on them in the far-off lands, and the moon, too, in due season. This enterprise of the Philosophical Society, headed by Dr. Adams, soems to complete the widespread arrangements for to-morrow's successful issue, unless anything can be done in the way of chaining up tho wind and dispersing tho clouds. The "Hush I Hush I" Tank. Peo'plo walking along Lambton Quny and other city streets havo been asking one another \vhy the Red Triangle streamers which were hoisted across tho streets yesterday by some Jack Tarn are fo high. They forget tho "hushl hush!" tank, which is to patrol tho streets on Friday. There really is a mystery about this tank. It would be unwise, however, to explain what tho mystery is just; now. Much bet-

tor for people to keep on picturing t» themselves a grey monster lurching across the vyam-rails. There is no doubt about it being a monster, that is nhy tlie streamers aro strung so high. Matinee at His Majesty's. A matinee performance was given in. Hie Majesty's Theatre yesterday afternoon in aid of the Red' Triangle funds. The Fuller proprietary had generously given the full proceeds of the entertainment to the Y.M.C.A. funds, and had allowed Y.M.C.A. workers to take charge of the doors. The programme presented was tho same as at the regular evening performance, and it wna enjoyed heartily by thr , audience.
