THE SUGAR RESTRICTIONS
WILL NOT BE APPLIED TO PARCELS FOE SOLDIERS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, November 5. Sir Joseph Ward has received a cable message from tho High Commissiouor, stating that hie efforts in arranging for parcels of sugar to bo sent to tho troops havo been successful. The sugar import restrictions will not bo applied io gifts and parcels sent by parcel post to individual members or bodies of oversea troops in England or France.
Several wcefe ago it was announced by tho Postmaster-General that tho importation of sugar into tho United Kingdom, except under licence, had bcon prohibited, and thot no exception would bo made in favour of New Zealand, the role being that no licences were granted to private persons. Consequently no Darcols containing sugar would bo accepted for transmission to the United Kingdom.
