CHURCH MEETING

ST. JAMES'S, LOWER HUTT. "; The annual meeting of parishioners was fairly well attended, the vicar (the Rev. A. L. Hanßell) presiding. In reviewing the work of the past year, the vicar expressed heartfelt thanks to all those who had given their services to the church, the lay' readers, guild collectors, Sunday School teachers, the choir, and all' others. The attendances had been' well maintained at the various, services, and the number of communicants showed a marked increase.' The finances were in a satisfactory condition, the receipts totalling/over £1500; the year closed with a credit balance of £8 7s. 2d. A matter of extreme gratification was the ifacfc that St. James's Hall had been redeemed for the use of the Sunday School,'" subscriptions, for this purpose having amounted to £692; The hall is now free of debt. ..• i The report and balance-sheet were formally adopted, and officers for the ensuing year were elected as follow:— Vicar's , churchwarden, Mr. F. M. Evans; parishioner's churchwarden,' Mr. J. E. Ellis; vestry, Messrs. G. Aldous, J. 0. Anson, 0. Baigent; AV. Bock, A. G. Heron, 0. T. ■ Natuech, Robinson, W. H. Russell, A. F. Tosswill, and E. D. Woodward (treasurer); auditors, Messrs. H. B. Gordon and W. C. Luff; synod representatives, Messrs. House and Robinson.

A motion to the effect that women ehould be permitted to voto at parish meetings was unanimously adopted.
