CLYDE QUAI r .■.' - '■•:' "-- In its twenty-seventh annual report, the committee of the Clyde tjuay. Scnool makes feeling reference to thu resignation of Mr. \V. T. Grundy/ the headmaster, Tho Education Board, it adds, uppointed Mr, W. H. Foster to fill the vacancy, "and wo aro all looking forward to a' happy and successful term under. Mr. Foster. Another loss which the school had sustained was the departure of the assistant-master, ,Mr. J. E. Thwaites, who has done yeoman service for tho last eleven and a half years." Tho headmaster had repeatedly spoken in terms of tho highest praise- of Mr. Thwaites's work. Those members of > tho staff who went away at tho call of country to light its battle aro still at the front, witli tho excepion of Mr. A. East, who is now at home ufter suffering severely from honourublo wounds sustained in the fighting in France. To Mr. Fosjette and Mr. Dempsey tho committee offered its congratulations and best wishes. As to tho work of tho school, the committee mentions that a National Scholarship was obtained by Minnie Forsyth, a pupil of the school; 77 gained their proficiency certificates, and 10 gained, competency certificates. There „aro' now 759 names on tlje roll, with an average attendance of 731. -In justice to the householders, tho committee wish ,to emphasise the fact that tho headmaster has been compelled to refuse admission to a number of. children of the district on account of the overcrowded state of tho school buildings. "Tho fact that 93 children have been refused admission speaks for itself."

SOUTH WELLINGTON. The report to be presented to tho householders of tho South Wellington district on Monday evening mentions cno or two matters of general policy. Tho retiring committeo urges all householders to insist upon tbo improvement of tho accommodation provided for pupils attending the technical school. Tho committee also records its opinion that school books should bo free, and recommends the incoming committeo to further approach the Education Board and the' Government to ask for the supply of free books for al! classes of children. A special prize obtained out of a donation of ono guinea by Mr. Russell was awarded to Gcorgo Howe for a record attendance over a period of eight yoars. , , Tho committeo endorses the opinion of tho headmaster that swings, seesaws, gymiiastio apparatus, and other appliances for tho amusement of tho children should bo erected in the playground, and- urges the incoming committeo to provide tho appliances as -soon as possible.
