VARIED LIST OF OASES. Mr. L. G. Reid, S.M., presided at tho Magistrate's Court yesterday. For insobriety, John Graham, against whom there was one previous conviction, was lined 10s., in default three days' imprisonment. Annie Maud Sales, against whom there were three previous convictions, and Annabella Swansea, with four previous convictions, were each fined 205., the alternative being fixed at seven days' imprisonment. John Marshall Savidge, who was found helplessly drunk in Rintoul Street, was remanded for medical treatment. Hilda Koberstein, who was before th© Supremo Court early in the week for sentence, and who was sent to the Salvation Army Home, escaped from that institution within about twenty-1 four hours of being placed there. She ■ was apprehended on Thursday afternoon in Manners Street, and appeared before the Magistrate yesterday morning. She was romanded to tho Supremo Court. Joo Tin, a Chinese, was charged! with having received from two lads a quantity of grapes which ho knew to,have, boon stolen. John M'Carthy was romanded to Wednesday on a charge of the theft of a quantity of olcotroplate ware, the property of somo person or persons unknown. Mrs. Smith, for whom Mr. J. J. M'Grath appeared, was fined £3, in default twenty-ono days' imprisonment, for using obscene language in Holland Street. James Stewart was convicted of behaving in a violent manner in a railway carriage while travelling .between Wellington and Potonc. He was fined ]os., with costs and expenses totalling 4fls. For using obscene language on tho same oocasion he was convicted and discharged. BREACHES OF THE BY-LAWS. Douglas Rose and John Varnbara were each fined 40s. and costs for riding their motor cycles on tho Hutt Road in. a manner dangerous to tho public. Albert _ Aldred, similarly charged, was' convicted and fined 205., with costs. Frank Boyle, for exceeding tho speed limit in Tinakori Road, was fined 205., and costs. Patriok Murphy was similarly fined for a similar offence. Bert Andrews and 'William Hitch, for, while driving motor-oars ou tho Hutt Road, failing to keep to the proper side of the road, were each fined 10s. and costs; and Jonathan Charles Wilkinson was similarly fined 1 for riding his motor cycle on the wrong sido of the road. Kenneth Sutherland was convicted of allowing tho registered number of his motor-car not to he easily distinguishable, and also with using dazzling lights on his car. He was fined 10s. in each case, with costs. Con Beaver, for having insufficient light on his motor-car, was fined 10s., and costs. Charles Downes and Thomas Hayward, for having their motor cycles insufficiently lighted when in use at night, were each ordered to pay Court costs. Clarenoe Moor© was convicted of failing to sound the horn of his motor cycle when approaching a pedestrian. Evidence'was given to the effect that defendant knocked down an old man. A fine of 20s. and costs, was inflicted. John Douglas Parmintor, for driving his motor-car over the Davis Street level crossing while an engine was approaching, was fined 205., and ordered to pay costs. ' ! . A fine of 2JJp., with costs, was inflicted on David Mason for depositing fish offal in sacks on the Island Bay foreshore. William Alexander Morris, for leaving a quantity of timber in Donyent Street without affixing a danger light to same, was fined 10s., and ordered to pay costs. Thomas Walsh, for driving his express at night without a light, was fined 55.; and James Arthur Connor, for' allowing stock to wander, ' was fined 10s. Walter Turner pleaded guilty to driving a horse attached io an express at a furious pate in Jervois Quay. Notwithstanding the plea, defendant said his horse could hardly stand up, let alone . gallop. The animal, he maintained, was very old, and he was proceeding to refer to the size of its teeth when ho was cut short by the Magistrate, who inflicted a penalty of 10s., and ordered defendant to pay costs, 30s.
