PHYSICAL INSTRUCTION
GOOD WORK IN THE SCHOOLS. Marked progress is being made Jβ tho physical training now carried out in all our schools, says the Wellington Inspectors in. their annual report. The report of the physical instructors shows that, in general, the work done is of a. satisfactory character. The instructors, however, call attention to a few defects here and thoro, such as "want of attontion to the 'fundamental position, when a class is under instruction, and the failure in some cases to use the tables so as to 'ensure a gradual hut steady and continuous progression in the teaching of physical exeroises throughout tho whole school life.' " A few or the teachers have been content with giving the exercises once or twice a week, but their attention has. been called to the fact that those exercises to be rendered valuable must be given daily. . Corrective- classes have been established by tho Medical Inspector in a few sohools in the Wairarapa, and in about twenty-six schools in and around the city of Wellington. In conjunction with the physioal instructors, special tables of exercises have been drawn, and in each school teachers have been selected to carry out these exeroisos for a short period- twice a day. It is yet too soon to make a definite report on the result, but. the medical inspector assures the 'Inspectors that although in operation only for a short time there is already sufficient evidence to -justify the establishment of such classes.
