THE INFORMATION DEPARTMENT'S REPORT. TTie following progress statoment of the work of the Discharged Soldiers' Information Department is made available by tho Minister in charge (the Hon. A. L. Herdman): — Total flumbor of men on register.— (A) Disposed of, 6524; (B) under action, 864,- (C) not readyior action (inoluding men returned by x recent transports), 319: total, 7707. ■ Particulars showing how cases dealt with.—Cases disposed of—(a) Men who have work to return to, and men who have re-enlisted or returned to military duty, etc., 2788; (b) men placed in employment, 1485; (c) men who have signed "assistance not required," 1495; (.d) left New Zealand or cannot ascertain address, 166; (e) men who have not responded to repeated communications, and men who have accepted worK the Department found for them but failed to start work, 600: total, 6624. Cases Under Action.—(a) Roporfcs upon cases not yet returned by officers making inquiries, 271; (b) awaiting furthor advice , (including men who have etatod that they are not yet ready for work), '434; (o) at present on employment wanted register, 169: total, 864. Cases not Ready for Action.—Men convalescing, not ready for employment, and not yet discharged by the military authorities, 319. Grand total, 7707.
Of the men on,the employment wanted register, those, in the Wellington district are distributed as follows :— Taihape, 2; Marton, 1; Feilding.l; Palmerston North, 3;'Taranaki, 8; Wanganui, 6; Napier, 6; Hastings, 1; Pahiatua, 1; Wairarapa, 3; Wellington, 7; and Blenheim, 2.
