THE LATE DR. M'NAB

LAST TRIBUTE OF RESPECT IN WELLINGTON. The people of Wellington had' their last opportunity yesterday evening of paying respect to the memory of the late Dr. R. M'Nab, and several hundred representative citizens followed the body of tho deceased gentleman from Mr. A. H. Turnbnll's house in Bowen Street to the ferry wharf, where the casket was put on board the s.s. Maori. The funeral will tako place in Inveroargill, and no religions service was held here as part of the ceremony yesterday. In tho procession were men representing almost every phase of affairs in the City. First among them were the Hon. Dr. M'Nab's colleagues in the Ministry. All of these were present; with the exception of the Hon. A.M. Myers, who is at present indisposed in Auckland. Tho. Hon: J. Allen (Acting-Primo Minister), the Hon. W. Fraser, tho Hon. G. W: Russell, the Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald, and the Hon. J. A. Hanan went south by tho Maori to attend the funeral. Among members of Parliament present were: Mr. O. H. Poole (Auckland West), Mr. 11. AV. .Smith (Waimarino), and Mr. W.' H. Field (Otaki). .The Mayor of Wellington (Mr. J. P. Luke) was present, and also Brigadier-General Sir A. W. Robin, representing the military, several ministers of the Presbyterian Church, representatives of tho Supreme Court bonoh, of the Magisterial bench, and of the logal and medical profession, senior officers of the Salvation Army, and a great many of the more highlyplaced public servants, including the Public Sor.vice' Commissioner, and tho heads of nearly every Department of tho State. There were also a great number of private citizens. The large and representative character of tbo assemblage was vory evident proof of the general high esteem in which the late Dr. M'Nab was held. TRIBUTES TO THE LATE MINISTER By ■ Telegraph—Press .Association. Auokland, February 5. Mr. Justice Hosking referred to tho death of the late Dr. R. M'Nab, Minister of Justice, at the opening of tho Supreme Court to-day. His Honour said that Dr. M'Nab was a man whoso sense of duty and. love of country were the mainspring of all iiis actions, and in whom the Dominion had sustained a great loss. . The Grand Jury of the Supreme Court to-day carried a motion endorsing Mr. Justice Hosking's tribute to the late Dr. M'Nab, and expressing the sense of the loss the Dominion has suffered through the death of a statesman of great professional attainment, a man who was not only possessed of great natural ability, but ono whose high sense of duty to his fellows and bis country has left a life's work nnd example of services well done for those following him. A Press Aesociation telegram from Wairoa states ithat considerable regret is expressed by people of all shades of politics at tho death of Dr. M'Nab. ■ li'lngs wero half-masted in the town on receipt of. the sad news. The following telegram has been received by the late Hon. Dr. M'Nab's private secretary from the president of the Hawkc's Bay Liberal League:— "Deeply grieved i most sad news. Hawke's Bay Liberals feel they havo lost true friend and champion, and tho country a statesman. Prior business engagements most pressing character prevent attendance funeral, but Messrs. Lan Simpson and Spencer Clapham coming through represent Liberal League, the former going right through." A Press Association message from Sydney states that thero have been many expressions of regret at tho death of Dr. M'Nab.
