ITALIAN OPERA COMPANY
Sir,—Reading the ""report in you* columns this morning, in which tho writer deplored the' fact that the theatre was only half filled, and remarked that Wellington did no know what treasures of music they were missing, I felt that I must join issue, and, as one who studied in Milan for some years and heard some of the best and greatest artists there, most sincerely 8ay f (after attending the performance of 'La Boheme" on Monday evening) that this is undoubtedly an opportunity of hearing one of the finesi/'opera companies that has ever come to New Zealand, and is an event not likely to occur again for a long time. To lovers of music to hear such magnificent voices as this company undoubtedly possesses is an education in itself and a sheer delight, 1 saw "La Boheme" performed in Milan at ong»of the best theatres (the Jj'nco I think it was), and I consider that the performance as given here was admirable. My only regret is that I cannot go every night, and I would urge all who are interested in grand opera not to lose this unique chance of 'hearing tho great'masters' works performed in the most beautiful of all languages, by splendid artists.—l am, etc., LEO. B. BUCKERIDGE. •Wellington; Dec. 13, 1916.
