James Willoughby, £3 19s. 9d., costs 10s. AN AWARD MATTER, Four employees at Hannah's boot factory were charged by tho Inspector of Awards (Mr. G. H. Lightfoot) with having absented themselves from work without leave. The defendants were J. Hutchison, W. Mill, H. Beardmore, and A. Sirakins. They were represented by ,Mr. P. J. O'Regan, who called evidonco to tho 'effect that the award had been habitually disregarded in the factory, and that it was a practice to take an extra holiday without giving notice. The Magistrate, Mr. W. G. Riddell, held that the cases merited a light ponalty, and he fined each defendant a shilling. A PROPERTY DEAL. Before Mr. L. (i. Reid, S.M., Robert Westfield, publisher, claimed to recover from David. Oliver, painter, £25, said to have been deposited respecting an agreement to purchase for £600 a freehold property, No. 21 Adams Street, Brooklyn. Plaintiff alleged that defendant had refused to carry out the contract and refused to repay tho deposit money. Defendant said that be had not failed to fulfil tho contract, and was still willing to do so. Mr. P. W. Jackson appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr. D. M. Findlay represented the defendant. His "Worship reserved his decision. POLICE CASES. Mr. L. G. Reid, S.M., dealt with the police business. Five first-offend-er? in insobriety were leniently dealt with. John Evans was fined 10s. for committing an indecent act in Lambton Quay.
