DISPUTE ABOUT A WILL

LATE JIBS. A. Q. TOWNEND'S ESTATE. BY Telegraph—Press Association. Ghristchurch, December 12. A dispute leading to litigation has arisen over the will of Mrs . Annie Quaylo Townend, who died in Christchurch a few years ago, andl loft nearly £800,000 in bequests to' private individuals and to a fetr public institutions. Amongst these bequests was the sum of £5000 to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, in tlio parish of Mallow, in tho Isle of Man. Tho parish covers an area of 12,000 acres, anad contains about 4000 inhabitants. At time of Mrs. Townend's death there was no society of that character in the parish, but there was a Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in tho Isle of Man. The latter society claimed tho sum, but after the nature of the will was _ made known a society was formed in the parish, and it is ako claiming the sum. In Ghambers, in tho Supreme Ooiirt, this morning, before Mr. Justice Denniston, Mr. GreßSon obtained an order for an originating summons to allow proceedings to be taken outside of New Zealand in order to bring the parties into Court. Amongst the parties is Mr. T. P. Moore, who is Mrs. Townend's heir, and who visited Christchuxch some time ago, and is ateo At-torney-General of the Isle of Man.
