Bel--' gians,"by Pierre Loti; The latter was /toi'serve asan : introduction. to - a lecturette by Mr. .Gooke,' on "Reminiscences of* a Journey to Northern France arid Belgium."- Mr. Cooke gave a brief account of. the country he' had! passed through, the recital being'interspersed with some humorous anecdotes, and also with incidents of the present war: Ho dealt with tlie dreadful havoc wrought in i Belgium, by the Germans, and urged the need of fully recognising tho serious task that lies before us of coping with the Germans. 'The' interest,of his lec-'; tiiro was, heightened by a .few ' blackboard sketches. 'On the' motion of Madame de Cleene a hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr. Cooko and to the ladies who had taken part.
