Riddell, S.M., presided at the monthly sitting of the Lower Hvtt Magistrate's Court, held yesterday Jud'g. ment was given for plaintiffs by default in the following civil, cases:—Sti>.te 'Advances Superintendent v. James R. Mabey, J!18 2s. 7d., costs 155.; James Kcnnington v. Percy Grainger, £2 9s; 6d:, costs ss. I™, Inspector of Awards (Mr. J. slaughter) proceeded against E. G. Pointon to recover the sum of £10 for an alleged breach of ■ tho 'carpenters' award. The inspector stated that Pointon had admitted the offence. During the month of June, three carpentors were engaged on a bungalow which defendant was building. For a time the men received 10 wages, but had since had the amount made up to them. For defendant, Mr. H. E. Ayson stated that defendant was a builder without capital, and had not received sufficient money .to pay his men. This was P-inton's first offence. Tho Magistrate gave judgment for plaintiff for £2.
