WELSH COAL CRISIS

It is hoped that a satisfactory adjustment will be reached in time, for submission to the Cardiff , conference this afternoon. The joint conference was not held. 'Mr. Llovd George and Mr. Rnncima.n ■ acted as the intermediaries in consultation witli either party alternately. The negotiations were smooth. A tentative agreement was reached for-a supplementary award of a bonus to every night worker. Also, a'date was agreed upon to which the wage advances would be retrospective. After the miners returned, Mr. Runcimim intimated that a hitch had arisen, necessitating further deliberations. It is understood that/the difficulty is not between tlio coal owners and'the miners; but betiveen lioth and the Government. All have agreed to resume the conference this morning, -when an agreement will likely, be, arrived at. CRUX OF THE DISPUTE. QUESTION OF NIGHT-SHIFTS. Mr. Lloyd George, Mr, Runciman, and Mr. Arthur Henderson , had previously -agreed that' all' workmen, on night-shifts should bo paid six tunis for the five turns worked. \ Certain proposals have been made, which will, be submitted to the miners' dolegates' meeting at Cardiff to-day. - MONMOUTH MEN RETURNING TO THE PITS. ' .London, August 30. It is understood the coalowners have agreed-to include workers excluded by ilr. Runciman, President of the Board of Trade. Ten thousand Monmouth strikers are resuming work, pending a conference.
