SOAPWORKERS' DISPUTE
: THE DJDNEDIN CASE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) ; • Dunedin, August 31. 'The soap workers' dispute came before tlie Arbitration Court to-day. The i union made a request that tlie employers be asked to show'reasons why. the' Canterbury award should iiofc be- ex-' tended' to Dunedin. i The>i Court liad given the Christeharch award in April and. liad decided that soap workers were entitled to Is.-2d. per hour. a . Mr. Granville; for tlie employers, said that since the Christc'liurcli award was given new terms liad been' made in Auckland as the result of recommendations agreed to at a sitting of the Conciliation > Council; The omployers' -wanted to pay 'time and a quarter for overtime for the. first four hours, and nod for the first two hours, as demanded. The employers stood for tlio present rate of wages, of Is. per hour. Mr. Justice Stringer: (Seeing.that Isj 2d. had been granted in Christchurcli; and'ls. IJd. in Auckland, why should Dunedin'employers have tlie advantage?
