AUCKLAND DEFEAT TARANAKI.
New Plymouth, August 26. The representative fixture between Taranaki and Auckland was played this afternoon in tho presence of about 2000 people. Tho game. ivhicSh was interesting throughout, resulted in a win for Auckland, whose backs were superior. Tlio Taranaki forwards Iliad the better of the game, shining in the loose rushes. Auckland won by 14 points to 5, but Uhe score is no crjtorion as Taranaki held tho upper liand during tho greater portion. In the first spell Barker scored for Auckland (from a passing movement in front of the Taranaki goal. The try ivas converted. Shortly after tlio second spell opened Robertson ran througli his opponents and scored for the local men, and Coleman converted. Clarke scored for tho Aucklanders from a passing riisli, Harris from a line-out, and Casey from a forward rusli, none of the tries being converted.
