PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL
At tho ordinary meting of the Petone Borough Council, held on Monday tiiere were present: The Mayor (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan), and Councillors List, Cox, Brocklebank, Anderson, Jones, Trueman, M'Kenzie, and M'Dougall. The Hutt and Makara County Councils advised that in connection with tho suggested conference of local bodies, re rates on Crown lands, Mr. \Y. J. Howell and Mr. A. J. Taylor had been appointed delegates. The Mayor stated that he was arranging a- conference of delegates on Monday next. The District Engineer N.Z.R., in respect to the lighting of tho Ilntt Road, advised that the Department declined to undertake any of the council's responsibility by providing lamps for street lighting, llie Wellington Harbour Board advised that the Petone Boat Harbour would be completed by next summer. The A.M.P. Society stated that it was prepared to pay over the final instalment of £10,000 at once if desired, instead of on August 1. It was decided to wait until duo date. The Hutt Valley Trotting Club was granted permission to use the Recreation Grounds on Saturday next for a patriotic meeting. An application for an advance of one shilling; per day from the stokers employed at the gasworks was held ovor until the next council meeting.
