£137,972 FOR THE BELGIANS ' COLLECTIONS TO DATE (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Chrlstcburch, April 17. In an interview to-day, tho Hon. R. H. Rhodes, Postmaster-General, said that since the beginninc of the war tie total amount of cash sent to the Bolgian Fund amounted to £132,972, and the value of Roods and produce was £65,000, so that up to the present New Zealand has sent cash and goods and produce equal to £30,000 per month. For the poor of Great Britain and Ireland, the cash sent totalled £38,295, and tho goods and produce was valued at £100,000. CHRISTCHURCH FESTIVAL. Chrlstchurch, April 17. The harvest festival, organised in aid of the Belgian Fund, was held to-day and was attended by an enormous gathering of people from all parts of Canterbury. The Queen of the Festival Competition, which has been in progress for some weeks past, came to a. conclusion to-day, and the result was announced at 4.30 o'clock after a. most strenuous counting on the part of the tellers. The final resolved itself into a duel between Nurse Maude (the Tramways candidate), and Miss E. Alien (nominee of Waipara County). The rosult was: Nurse Maude (Tramways), l:_ Miss E. Allen (Waipara County). 2; Miss Elsie Michell 3. The order of other,candidates was:. Miss A. Bramley (New Zealand Fanners' Cooperative), 4; Mrs. R. 0. Duncan (Sports), 5; Miss M. It is expected that tho festival will produce £30,000. WANGANUI STREET COLLECTION. Wanganul, April 18.' The Wanganui Nursing League holds an annual street collection for funds, but this year devoted its energies to the assistance of the Belgian Fund. JUVENILE BAZAARS. Several juvenile bazaars have been held at Petone recently in aid of the Belgian Fund, which has been considerably augmented as a result. Last Saturday afternoon Misses Boyd, Jones, and Chesterman held a successful function at 79 Fitzherbert Street, which was opened by the Mayor (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan). Trade was brisk, and the youthful promoters are to be congratulated on their efforts, which resulted in a profit of £5, to be handed over to the fund. The total amount raised at Petone by bazaars such as this is about' £20.
