A GOOD WORK
OPENING OF THE NEW CRECHE< v In tho sphere of charitable endear*, our in Wellington there is no iiame better known, or more genuinely respected than, that of the Rev. Mother Mary Joseph Aubert. Though she has now been away from the Dominion for nearly a year, and was, at last advices, still at Home, her manifold good works continue to flourish in her absence, to the help and comfort of many a poor soul who finds the world a vale of pain and sorrow. The Rev. Mother was the first person to establish that beneficent French idea in New Zealand known as tho creche. The new building is'to be formally opened by Coadjutor-Arcln bishop O'Shca to-morrow afternoon, which interesting ceremony tho publiq are invited to view.

There are no thermal springs in the vicinity, and the source, of the odour was a mystery till. news of tho. explosion was hoard. The country that the Matawahe Road traverses is of very high altiture, and tho fumes were evidently carried across from the iskind- •.
