A CARTERTON PROPOSAL. ' Tho Mayor of Carterton, Mr. M. D Hornsby, is inviting subscriptions in cash and kind from residents of Carterton and the South Wairarapa County, to a war .relief fund for the following objects :.—(1) To assist :tho "dependents of men who volunteer for active service from the borough and county, and. of reservists who rejoin tho British Army from tho same district; (2) to relieve distress occasioned by unemployment in the above' district, by carrying' out useful public works; (3) to forward relief in money or kind to England, Belgium, France, or elsewhere, as may be decided; (4) to rcliove the necessities of those who return to the borough or county after joining for active service; (6) to cooperate with other localities of the Wairarapa, or of the Dominion, or with a national fund or funds, with the abovo objects; (6) to devote any surplus to the purposes of such public, benevolent or educational institutions, fund, or work as may be decided. A meeting of subscribers to the fund will be called in due course, to elect an executive with full power to oarry out the objects of the fund—Carterton correspondent, OTAKI'S CONTRIBUTION.' The receipts for the Otaki patriotio concert' totalled £31 17s. S*d., while tho expenses amounted to £4 14s. Thus there is a net amount of £27 3s. Bsd. to hand over to tho Patriotio Fund Committee.
