THE POPULAR COMPETITIONS

An audience of some hundreds of people was present at the: third night of .the Popular' Competitions last night. The programme was a varied one, and ranged froai blindfold pillow combats to'chorus singing.- The , battles in the former contests caused much amuse: ment, and acted as a relief to the succeeding items. The main , programme of items was interspersed with: daintilyexecuted- exhibition "dances by! '!£"■ and Mdlle. Craus,' and solo numbers by prominent performers in the competitions. Mr. Alfred Boothman again acted as stage manager, while a capable orchestra, under' file direction of Mr. J. IV Woodward, rendered selections throughout the evening. The results of the •various competitions are as follow:— '■■ ... .:. : Blindfold Pillow Contest.—Messre.-W. Preohher, L. Thompson, L. A. Stebbing, H. Sayers,,E. Needham, and W. Jacobson were successful in the various heats. Mi\'L. Thompson was successful in the filial, while Mr. Jacobson was second. Children's Step-dancing.—Miss D.
