In the annual intor-'Varsity boat race between Oxford and Cambridge Universities, the Cambridge men won easily by four lengths. .' . ■

The race was rowed in perfect weather) Cambridge chose the' Surrey side, rowing , admirably, aud .forged ahead'from the start, two lengths in the lead. At Harrod's, Oxford gamely, bat ineffectually strugglod to reduce the load. Cambridge- easily held them, and the race was a procession' from Hammersmith, despite Oxford's spurts. Several of the Oxonians were distressed. Cambridge paddled home four lengths and a half in. the lead.

An impromptu stand on a barge at Hammersmith collapsed,! and a hundred people were thrown from the barge.Fourteen were seriously fractured about the limbs. .Seven were sent to the hospital, ■ ■ '•

Sproule, of Melbourne, won the three miles in 14min. 34 4-Ssec. —a University record. , . ' ■ ' • ■ Last year the sports ended in a tiefive events each. The three-mile race was won by D. N. Gausaen, , Oxford, Ids tiino being 14.47, This is the seventy-first year of this historic contest. Last year Oxford achieved her fifth successive win, by -three-quar-ters of la length, in 20min. 53sec. Oxford has had 39 wins, and. Cambridge (including the above win) 31. In 1877, the race ended in a dead heat. - /
