PETONE BOAT HARBOUR.
TO BE CONSTRUCTED FOR £2450,
The suggested boat harbour at I'ctono' was considered- at last ii.i'ght% meeting of the Harbour Board, When sfr. J. W. M'Ewan, the Mayor of Petone/ and a member of the Harbour Board, moved :—"That tho engineer be instructed' to proceed, with tho erection of a, boat harbour at Potone, as per plaiv slid, report submitted to tho board; the wo ! rk to bo undertaken by tlio board's staff,' at an estimated capital cost of £2450. Mr. M'Ewan said that provided the larger scheme was cariied wit tho Pctone Borough Council Would guaranCeo one-half the standing charges oi £260, less tho amount received from any mooring, fees levied by tlie Harbour Board. , Mr. H. Fletcher;' Less .Hie ■ mooring. ; fees'l What has tho I'ctono Borough Council got to ■do with the wooiing fees? A member: It's to rflievo the council : of a share of .the ciiarges. Mr. M'Ewan: If tho board resolves £40 as mooring fees, we propase. the Harbour Board should take iliat amount _ off tho-co'uncil's share of the standing charges." Mr. Fletcher: You Would: h.av© more chance of this going through without referenco .to tho mooring fees. Tho board should get'the mooring' tees. Mr. M'Ewan: Perhaps .the. hoard would meet us half way,, and allow half : tho mooring fees. After further discussion Mr. M'Ewan agreed to'add to his motion'. "That the Petone Borough Council agreed to provide half tho standing • charge's, less half,of any mooring fee^'received, the council to provide a caretaker wheiV considered necessary," . Captain "Watson seconded the motion. Mr. H. L. Nathan said that, ho did not think they should go jil'iW ,«W:li schemes at the piesent tihis.. Tlrej-p . were moro urgent works to be carried out. For that reason lie would oppote the motion. • . Mr. R. Fletcher, said, that it was essential in a harbour like theirs thatsome provision for boats, should be provided.
