In order to make a thorough investigation of tlu; injuries to the how of I lie fcrr.v steamer Maori, as the result ol tho collision with tho Now Zealand Shipping Company's liner Jiuuhine at Wellington p» Saturday night, the Lyttolton Harbour boards diver. Mr. M'Lcan, was engaged this morning surveying the vessel below the waterline. He reported that every thins below the waterliiic was intact, and that the bow rudder had not sustained any material injury, and this was subsequently borne out by the rudder being given a trial. Above tho waterline tho bow shows distinct signs of tho collision, nioro particularly the stem of tho bow. The vessel is,' however, watertight, and tho Inspector of Machinery reported that she was perfectly seaworthy. As.the extent of tho injuries arc chiefly above the watcrline, and as the bow rudder is undamaged, it has practically been decided to delay more extensive and' permanent repairs until the Maori is ready for her annual overhaul, probably 111 Juno next. Tho Maori will leave tonight as usual 011 her journey to Wellington. Owing to 110 berth being available, tho Ruahino. anchored in the stream this morning, but at noon a 10presentative party visited her. It is understood that about fivo plates amidships suffered some damage.
