SCHOOLS READING COMPETITION
The annual reading competition conducted by the Wellington Shakespeare Club among pupils at secondary schools Mas held on Saturday morning last, Miss Holms, Miss England, and Mr. Baldwin being the judges. Six schools, lour girls' ,and two boys' were represented, each by two pupils. The standard of reading was again a warded improvement oil previous years, though no very high degree of excellonco was reached. Th© reading of the boys" in particular, jvhich lias often been somewhat painful to the judges, was pleasingly good throughout, somo littlo fellows giving abundant promise of becoming first-rate readers. The prizes, books to tho value of £1 Is. in eacli case, wero awarded to Miss Mary Collie, of Chilton House School, with SO points, and Master W. R. Fell, of Wellingtoh College, with 89 points. Other placed competitors were: Miss Isabel Wilford, of Fituherbert Torrace School, with 77 points, ami Master' Y. H. Fi-eeth, of Wellington College, with 81 paints.
