As a result of an investigation by a Senate Committee inartial law lias been abolished on tho West Virginia coalfields, where it had been enforced ever sinco tho strike disturbances of September lost. The committe© found that a reign of terror prevailed, and that' the district was really in a state of war. Armed miners, during the year, engaged in numerous pitched battles with the forces of law and order. Conciliatory methods are suggested.
