THE PRICE OF STATE COAL.
A REDUCTION PROBABLE. In conversation with a reporter on Saturday, the Hon. W. Eraser (Minister for, Mines) foreshadowed a possible reduction iu the price -of State It was tho cost of production, the Minister 6tated. that had brought about the increase. Until the price was raised tho .coal was being sold at a loss. At present tho coal was brought down a steop grade byordinary engines, which, oould only (with safety) take small loads. A central rail, similar to that on the Rimutaka incline, is being laid on the steep portion of tho line from the mine at Point Elizabeth, and when this has been completed it will I>3 ipossiblo to bring out full loads of coal. The line will be completed in this way, the Minister anticipates, in four or fiyo weeks' time, and he elated that ho would then be prepared to consider the question of reducing the price of coal to tho I public.
