So far, ■no horseman has been engaged for the chestnut gelding, but no doubt a suit-' able rider will be obtained in Christchurch. The latest horse to come into the market for- the Great Easter Handicap at Riccarton is Query. The chestnut gcldir-' is gifted with a lot of pace, but, so far, his public form lias not been sufficient to warrant the suggestion that 110 would win the big handicap under notice. The acceptance received for tlio Fcilding Cup is anything but satisfactory, and only eight horses lmvo been paid up for. Byron is now at tlio head of tlio handicap with Sst. 101b. The distance and her light weight (7st. 51b.), should greatly assist Mangaroa to show tlio forih, which she gavo promise of last autumn. ? Judging from latest market reports, it appears certain tbalfc Emperador will 6tart favourite in the Great Easter Handicap. . The Charlemagne II gelding has only raced once, when 110 scored in tho Middle, Park Plato, Itlie beaten division including Autumnus, Nightwatch,, Salzburg, Ogier, and Fender. Considering that it was his first start, und that lie put up now figures for tlio race, he is entitled 'to bo olassed as a good one, and as such 110 is not badly treated with Sst. 31b.

W. Connor, who steered Relievo to victory in the Newmarket Handicap, is evidently a lucky youth. Some little time back he_ decided to throw 111 his lot with 'the ponies, an<l even went so far as to obtain a permit to rido in races open to ''all heights" at meetings of tlio Associated Clubs.
