THE SUPPLY OF TEACHERS.

At a, meeting of the Southland Education Board to-day, a motion was passed calling tho attention of the Department to the inadequacy of the present facilities for training teachers in the Southland district. It was decided to consult the Department as to the probability of meeting tho difficulty by tho.importation of teachers. If the Department is unfavourable to importation, it will bo.requested to assist financially in the establishment of two model schools in the district. The chairman (ih: D. Gilchrist) said it was not worth whilo importing, incompetent teachers, and it'was not likely that'eompeteut teachers arriving .in the country would submit to being sent to the backblocks.
