Membors of tho Otaki Ladies' Hockey Club held a progressive euchro party and danco on Thursday evening in the Druids' Hall. The prizes lor the euchre eventually fell to Mrs. A. A. Bright and Mr. E. Lanchcster. Supper was served afterwards. On AVednesday the Te Horo hockey team defeated Otaki by 2—o, after a struggle in which force was more in evidence than skill. Levin beat Shannan (2—l) after an exciting game, while lumberley forfeited to Rahui. For the ladies' championship Otaki defeated Shannon (2—o), lua Ora beat High School (1-0), Ohau defeated Taiuui 3—o, and Levin beat Manakau by I—o. Tho Maori Land Court is at present sitting here, but the influx of Natives is not much above normal. In view of the race meeting to be held 'here at tho end of next mouth, improvements aro being effected on the course. Tho monthly silting of the S.M. Court took place yesterday, Mr. A. D. Thomson presiding. A young man named George Spackman was charged on tho information of the police with fraudulently using stamps, it being stated in evidence that ho hail sent a parcel to » person in Timnru with stamps that had been previously used. Defendant did not appear, and was fined Jll, and costs 7s. John Cordillo was charged with disorderly conduct, but, on the application of the police, a remand was granted, the constable stating that other _ charges wero pending. A few minor civil cases wero also dealt with, whilo others wero settled out of Court. In the mouth of July tho rainfall for Otaki was 5.02 inches, there being 15 days of rain, with a maximum; fall of 1.12 in. July's rainfall for tho previous year was fi.BS inches, while the average fall for the past eight years (July month) was 3.05. inches. At Reikornngi the fall was 7.20 inches, as against 5.03 inches for the coirespondiug month last year. Rain fell on 23 days, tho heaviest fall being on July 21, when 1.09 inches fejl.
