Officers of the Railway Department from Wellington and Wanganui aro in Palmerston at tho present timo collecting information and taking measurement?, etc., in regard to alterations and improvements at Palmerston railway station. They have held consultations with tho Mayor and the president of the Chamber of Commerce as to what is desired by tho business people. Tho "speeding up" of the early morning and evening trains to and from Wellington was gone into, and there is prosi>cct of theso trains being made faster. Tho Cook Street crossing at tho southern end of tho station is the stumbling-block to tho extension of tho railway yard, but it is hoped to pet over this difficulty by tho construction of a sub-way. Tho goods shed is to bo moved to a more convenient site, so as to givo more room for shunting, etc. As to what elso will be done wilPnot bo known till tho officials who aro now inspecting the station make their report.
