LETTER-CARRIERS' PICNIC.

OUTING AT DAY'S BAY. Favoured with line weather conditions, the annual picnic and spoils of the Wellington latter-currier*' Club drew a large attendance to the Day'.- Bay grounds on Sal unlay. The arrangements were carried out under the supervision of Air. .1. Johnstone (chairman), Mr. U. Spear (secretary), Mr. C. I). M'Uwau (treasurer), and u committee, consisting of Ms<srs. .1. flatten, ,1. Chandler, G. Millar, I'. Ciichnuie, J. Lawless, and E. llulherr. The following were the officials:— Judges: Messrs. Dull and Fuche; starter, •Mr. 11. J. Stokes; clerk of course, Mr. W. J. Meredith; ami handicapper, Mr. W. Chapman. Prior lo the sports starting, a race between Carriers .1. Monaghan and 11. Hatchard over a distance of 'J2O yards excited great interest, Hatchard beating his opponent by 12 inches. The other races resulted as follow:— Carriers' iSOyds. Handicap—First heat: Murpliv, 1; L'iehardsou, 2. Second heat: Sullivan, 1; Ellison. 2. Final: J. Sullivan, 1; V. Ellison, 2. Mail-room 220 yds. Handicap—P. Frazt, 1; F. A mbridge, 2. Variety Hace.—Miss G. Johnstone and F. Cochrane. Mile Walk.-T. Richardson, 1; G. Millar, 2. HOyds. Handicap.-T. Dudley, 1; N. C. Andrews. 2. Married Ladies' Race.—Mrs. Turner, 1; Mrs. M ■.Mahon. 2. Single Ladies' Race.—Miss Rodgers, 1; Miss Pearce, 2. Old Officers' Race—W. Moxliam (lettercarrier), 1; W. D. Jenkins (letter-car-rier's sorter), 2; D. Millar (Chief Postmaster), 3. Keen interest was evinced in this race. The agility shown by some of the competitors ' surprised the onlookers. Numerous children's races were run during the day, and games were heartily indulged in. The prizes were presented by the Chief Postmaster (Mr. D. Millar). Hearty cheers were given for those who had assisted to make the gathering a success, after which the function terminated.
