Sir, —Mny I venture that your correspondent, Mr. TTenry Bodloy, lakes a ureal deal on himself when he ntlcmpls to thresh the granary with a very clumsy Hail, in an ambitious ufl'oit to reduce \\'< contents—for instance, your worthy self and most humble "Tit for Tat"—tn'chaiT. whilst incidentally-alluding (o "jumped upb" (the quotation is his own) as beins members of the council. And with what an ugly phrase he sets out his idea of

"plain English"! In "plain English," ho s:iys "if tho council had not been predominantly comprised of 'jumped ups,* the incident never have happened." A line illustration of plain English, truly! As to Hie "mending of manners of publio men," 1 cheerfully loave that task to Mr. lioillf.v, premising that; his suggestion of "misplaced confidence" on t;hc part of the editor is presumptive uud obtrusively import input. For the rest—unluckily for his contention—his letter appears on the same page of Tin: Dominion - as does the following paragraph:—"Mr. Hurley . . . proposed:—'Thai n committee be set up to report to tho next meeting of this league upon the best means of organising resistance to any future strike.'
